A celebration of Asia’s young readers

The inaugural Scholastic Asia Young Storytellers Award (SAYSA) aims to:

  • Nurture the joy of reading among Asia’s young English learners
  • Encourage children to confidently express their creativity through storytelling

Public voting via the official Scholastic Asia Young Storytellers Award platforms

Announcement of Top 60 and invitation to attend the Scholastic Asia Young Storytellers Award ceremony

Live broadcast of the Scholastic Asia Young Storytellers Award ceremony

Competition Entry Guidelines

Age group

Open to children aged 4 to 10 years from across Scholastic’s Asia markets

Eligible countries / regions

China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, and Indonesia

Submission Requirements

Only 1 video submission per child

Video length

Maximum 3 minutes

Video Format

MP4 only

Reading material

Any English book published by Scholastic

· Children may read an entire Scholastic picture book or chapter book so long as it is within the 3-minute time limit.

· Alternatively, children can also choose to read a 3-minute excerpt of any Scholastic picture book or chapter book

Video guidelines

· Video frame size - Landscape / Horizontal mode

· Please record in a quiet space to ensure clarity of child’s voice

· No background music when child is reading aloud
